‘It was family oriented’: Married couple plans return to work at Three Mile Island

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — When the Three Mile Island power plant announced it shutdown in 2019, more than 600 people were left without work. Some were able to stay on board during part of the decommissioning, but after that was completed, they were left unemployed.

“People go to nuclear power plants, and they typically spend their entire career there,” said Quinn Vandermeersch. “I had the unique opportunity to go to a nuclear power plant and do multiple different things across different departments without ever having to move and that was the plan.”

But that plan was changed quickly in 2019 when TMI announced its decommissioning plan. Quinn was engaged at the time, and him and his fiancée, Tori, had to plan their wedding around a potential major change in their life…
