Swimming prohibited in lakes at two Central PA state parks due to elevated bacteria counts

YORK, Pa. — Two Central Pennsylvania state parks have prohibited swimming at their beaches after water tests found elevated bacteria levels.

Gifford Pinchot State Park in York County said Thursday that swimming is prohibited in Pinchot Lake’s campground beach after water tests found an elevated coliform count. The Quaker Race Day Use Area remains open for swimming, and other lake activities like boating and fishing are still permitted, park officials said.

The park said it will test the water daily and reopen the campground swimming beach when bacteria counts fall into acceptable levels…
