Newville cracks down on electric bike and scooter violations

CUMBERLAND CO., PA — Concerns over electric bikes and scooters are growing in central Pennsylvania, prompting Newville Borough in Cumberland County to enforce stricter regulations. Starting in September, the borough will implement Pennsylvania’s Micromobility Rules, prohibiting electric scooters and skateboards on public roads. The decision was made by the borough council on July 8.

The PA Micromobility Rules says that while a license is not required to use an e-bike, riders must be 16 or older. Electric scooters are restricted to private property use only.

Kevin Sensenig, owner of Sensenig’s Bike Shop, explained that most of his customers use e-bikes on bike trails. “Most of the riders actually that I sell to mostly ride on road trails. There’s some of that might ride around their community on the road, but I do have different customers that buy them to commute back-and-forth to work but we’re not in the city here so yeah mostly rail trail type of people is what we deal with,” said Sensenig…
