CARLISLE, Pa. — The Pennsylvania state budget is now a full month overdue from its June 30 deadline, and local officials are warning that vital public services could face funding shortages if the deadlock in Harrisburg continues.
Cumberland County Commissioner Jean Foschi says the lack of state funding threatens key county programs, including mental health and addiction services, if a budget is not passed during the summer.
“It keeps me up at night that the budget isn’t passed,” Foschi said. “It just costs more money to the taxpayer in the long run, but it costs a lot to our human spirit and to the people that live here. It’s terrible for our constituents. It’s terrible for the people that are counting on our services being there for them.”…
