State is giving away free potassium iodide pills to residents who live near PA’s 4 active nuclear plants

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced that the annual statewide distribution of free potassium iodide tablets to residents who live, work, or study near one of the commonwealth’s four active nuclear power plants will take place on August 14.

One of the Pennsylvania’s active plants is located in southern Lancaster County.

The KI tablet distribution events are part of emergency preparedness planning and are only to be used in the unlikely event of a radiological release from a nuclear power plant, the Department of Health said in a press release Thursday…
