HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– Chef Mieshia Jackson teaches her culinary students how to be more confident and independent so they can lead healthier lives. Since 2021, she has helped around 300 people.
Chef Mi & Kids offers free cooking classes to children 8-14 years old and adults with special needs. The classes are an hour long and the meals take about 30 minutes to make. Students learn how to make some of their favorite meals during the class so they can replicate the recipe on their own at home.
“I think that building that independence with using less processed food allows us to have more capacity to deal with if food continues to climb in prices,” Jackson says. “My program is really addressing food insecurity and as our dollars are, you know, not stretching as far, you want to get those, you know, fresh ingredients. You can stretch it longer.”…
