Enrollment at a school district in Dauphin County has soared so much in recent years that school officials are looking for solutions — both temporary and permanent — to deal with the challenges of overcrowding.
Enrollment since 2017 has increased from more than 2,600 students to 3,165 in the Susquehanna Township School District, which sits right outside of Harrisburg.
Two of the district’s four schools — Sara Lindemuth/Anna Carter Primary School and Thomas W. Holtman Jr. Elementary School — are bursting at the seams and are over capacity by more than 300 students, district officials said.
