Cumberland County man jailed 2-5 years for ‘terrorizing,’ trying to kidnap 5 people in 20-minute span

MARIETTA, Pa. — A Cumberland County man will serve anywhere from two to five years in prison followed by another five years of probation after pleading no contest this week to charges stemming from an October 2024 incident where he terrorized three people in a car and tried to kidnap two different victims in the span of roughly 20 minutes in East Donegal Township.

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that Jared Sweigard, 43, pleaded no contest on Sept. 3 to two counts of criminal attempt of kidnapping to inflict injury, one count of unlawful restraint, two counts of terroristic threats and a single count each of false imprisonment, loitering and prowling at nighttime and harassment at a hearing before Lancaster County Judge David Ashworth.
