This surprising threat kills more than a billion birds a year

U.S. bird populations are down by three billion since 1970 due to a litany of hazards, including habitat loss, poisoning, wind turbines, oil spills, electrocution, and of course, cats.

But a new study from Allentown’s Muhlenberg College found that one of the top — and most underrated — threats is one lurking at all of our homes: windows.
