West Perry School Board explores $59M facilities overhaul plan

The West Perry School Board is continuing to explore its options for a potential facilities overhaul. Specifically, the construction of a new elementary school on the district’s main campus which would result in the closure of the three existing elementary schools and realignment of grades. The option the board most seriously is considering would house kindergarten through third grade students at the new elementary, fourth through sixth grade at the middle school and seven through 12 at the high school. Renovations of the latter two facilities also would be part of the project.

The board has held meetings with EI Associates, exploring building options including possible locations at the Spring Twp. campus. A total of five potential locations have been explored — the lot between Route 274 and the middle school, the varsity baseball field, the old (JV) baseball field, the former field hockey field and the current middle school parking lot.

At the Aug. 4 committee of the whole meeting, EI gave results of its site investigation of two of the locations. Option 2 (the varsity baseball field) and Option 4 (former field hockey field)…
