Property tax freeze could save low-income homeowners from losing their homes | PennLive letters

For years, politicians promised to eliminate Property Taxes (PT) on homeowners. When elected, only marginal reforms are addressed. Some relief came with approval of slot machines but did not reduce current burdens on home owners. Instead, the new revenues went to the taxing authorities to, at best, reduce future tax increases.

Homestead and Farmstead exemptions remain a pittance. Elimination of PT never happens because it would require increases in the Personal Income Tax (PIT), the sales tax and corporate net income tax, which few pols would do.

Until politicians find courage to address the PT burden, here’s here’s a novel idea to help low-income households: Freeze at current levels tax levies by school districts, counties and local governments for low-income homeowners…
