Man who beat cellmate to death after incidental bump in Cumberland County jail takes plea

A man who killed his cellmate in Cumberland County prison for bumping into him and not saying “excuse me” took a plea deal on Monday as jurors were being picked for his trial.

Shaquille Tyrin Gibson, 31, of Camp Hill pleaded no contest to first-degree murder charges stemming from the July 1, 2024 death of Bernard Grover, 57, who used the name Kevin Beattie. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but means the defendant agrees there is enough evidence to convict.

Gibson will serve life in prison for the slaying. The sentence was imposed by Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas Judge Christylee Peck. A third-degree murder charge and a criminal homicide charge were dismissed…
