Prison inmate sentenced after beating cellmate to death over ‘disagreement’ in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A Cumberland County prison inmate was sentenced to life in prison after beating his cellmate to death over an ‘ongoing disagreement’ on Monday.

Shaquille Gibson, 31, of York, pleaded no contest to first-degree murder and was immediately sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after beating his SCI Camp Hill cellmate, Bernard Grover, to death in July 2024, according to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office.

The office says on July 1, 2024, Gibson brutally struck Grover 8-10 times in the head with a closed fist before kicking and stomping on his head 8-10 more times while wearing state prison-issued boots.
