York County, PA – A Pennsylvania landlord who admitted to neighbors that he “beat the s— out of” his tenant during a late-night drunken argument has been sentenced to 8 to 16 years in prison for third-degree murder, according to court officials. The fatal assault occurred in April 2023 and left 42-year-old Michael Byers dead outside the home he rented on the property.
The Incident: Drunken Argument at a Firepit Turns Deadly
According to investigators, 37-year-old Zachary Neiman and his tenant, Michael Byers, spent the night of April 29, 2023, drinking together at a firepit on Neiman’s property. Byers lived in a detached apartment on the same land.
Neighbors reported hearing the two men engaged in a heated verbal altercation shortly before 10 p.m. Moments later, the neighbors spoke directly with Neiman, who allegedly stated:
