County layoffs averted in Blair as state budget passes

(WTAJ) — County leaders across the region are breathing a sigh of relief after budget votes in Harrisburg and Washington D.C. yesterday led to both plans being signed and the governments reopening.

Blair County Commissioners said with the state budget passing, they’re putting the brakes on potential layoffs. No staff had to be furloughed but it was an option they were considering if an agreement on the budget wasn’t reached soon.

Commissioners said they anticipate the state funding to roll in before the end of the year and can make their “Rainy Day Fund” stretch until then.
