CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Borough leaders are calling their new Community Trust and Local Autonomy Ordinance the key to making the city more “welcoming” to all people; however, those opposed to the law say it has the potential to increase Cumberland County’s human trafficking problem.
The new ordinance places some limitations on when local police can work with federal immigration officials, stating:
“Borough resources shall not be used to support or assist in federal operations conducted for the purpose of civil immigration enforcement, except in response to an imminent and significant threat to life or public safety, or when required by binding order of a court of competent jurisdiction or to execute a judicial warrant.”…
