Attorney General Dave Sunday launches new initiative to protect Pennsylvania seniors

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced on Tuesday the launch of the new Elder Exploitation Section within the Attorney General’s Office, a dedicated team that will focus on investigating and prosecuting people who abuse or take advantage of older Pennsylvanians.

Pa. has the fourth-highest senior population in the country, and Sunday says his office receives dozens of complaints every month, largely involving fraud. He says two-thirds of the cases are from people that know the victim directly.

“These are individuals entrusted to offer protection and safeguards over financial assets, assets often accumulated during the senior’s entire lifetime,” Sunday said in his announcement in Harrisburg. “Instead, they deliberately and intentionally steal from the senior, who may be of varying degrees of diminished capacity.”…
