YORK, Pa. — Drivers across the region may be spotting more deer along the roadside this fall — and PennDOT says the increase in roadkill is one of the most noticeable rises in recent years.
From backroads to major highways, deer-related roadkill has risen across the area in recent weeks, according to PennDOT spokesperson Fritzi Schreffler.
“Although you used to be able to think, ‘I’m going to see them coming out of the woods or crossing a farmer’s field,’ I’ve seen them in downtown places like Shiremanstown in Cumberland County,” Schreffler said. “I actually saw a deer running down Green Street one day. Anymore, you just have to expect they’re going to be around — especially from dusk to dawn, which is the worst time.”…
