‘I cook for the hugs’: Outreach helps Harrisburg’s homeless with hot meals, resources

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Harrisburg’s homeless population has been through a lot the past few years, including relocations, harsh conditions, and uncertainty. One local outreach group has been there every step of the way to make sure bellies are full and hearts are filled.

The Eclipse Project: Helping Harrisburg’s Homeless is an outreach group based in Dauphin County that gathers every Sunday to cook a home-cooked meal with an extensive menu. The group also provides other supplies, resources, and services.

Michon Zalewski founded the project in December of 2020 after meeting some of the unhoused folks in the Harrisburg area by chance. She happened to be driving by Market Square and felt a calling to help. “I was inspired to do this quite by accident,” she said…
