HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — Hundreds of people kicked off Thanksgiving at the City Island Pie Gobbler, a race that rewarded runners who crossed the finish line with a classic holiday treat: pie.
Runners arrived as early as 6:30 a.m. for the US Road Running “Pie Gobbler” 5K, 10K and half marathon.
“We’re excited to be at City Island today,” said Monica Padgett, the vice president of US Road Running and race director of the City Island Pie Gobbler. “I think most people have heard of a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving before, but US Road Running does something a little different. We have a pie gobbler race. So every finisher gets a pie gobbler medal and a little mini pie to take with them to thanksgiving dinner today.”…
