WWII airman finally comes home to York County after 81 years

YORK, Pa. — Eighty-one years after he was killed in World War II, U.S. Army Airman Clifford Keeney was finally laid to rest in York County on Friday — bringing closure to a family that spent decades searching for answers.

Keeney was just 26 years old when his B-17 Flying Fortress was shot down over Germany in 1944. For generations, his family held out hope that he would someday come home. His niece, Bonnie McClure, made a promise as a young child that she would bring her uncle back — no matter how long it took.
