Ethan Sweeney Charged After Infant Suffers Brain Bleed

A newly married York man is accused of violently assaulting his 3-month-old son inside a Spring Garden Township apartment, causing the infant to suffer a brain bleed and swelling, according to an affidavit obtained by Daily Voice on Friday, Dec. 5.

Ethan Hunter Sweeney, 22, is accused of attacking the child on Sunday, Nov. 24, while the baby’s mother was at work, the affidavit filed by York County Regional Police says. The infant was later rushed to WellSpan York Hospital around 11:30 p.m., where bruising stretched from the baby’s forehead to his lower cheek, officers detailed in the court documents. Physicians determined the child had brain bleeding and swelling, and he was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for emergency care.

Sweeney first claimed he tripped while holding the baby, causing the child to hit a metal cat cage, police wrote in the sworn filing. He told officers the infant would not stop crying and said he sent the mother a picture of the baby’s face while she was still at work…
