DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Dauphin County Commissioner Justin Douglas explained that one of the biggest issues with the homeless population would be criminalizing homelessness, which Douglas claims would cost taxpayers more than if the county utilized all the resources it has allocated for the homeless population.
“I don’t think criminalizing the problem is helpful,” said Douglas. “And I’ll be honest, for taxpayer purposes, that should be something we very concerned about because, the cost of criminalizing mental health issues has already, as someone who has oversight of Dauphin County Prison has already, inflated the budget of the prison.”
