With wintry weather forecasted for the weekend, the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation have announced some restrictions starting on Saturday.
Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, certain vehicles will be prohibited from some roadways. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph.
Those roads include:
- Pa. Turnpike Interstate 76 from Cranberry (Exit 28) to Breezewood (Exit 161).
- Pa. Turnpike Mon-Fayette Expressway (Route 43), entire length.
- Pa. Turnpike Southern Beltway (I-576), entire length.
- Pa. Turnpike Route 66, entire length.
- Pa. Turnpike Beaver Valley Expressway (Route 60), entire length.
- Interstate 70 from the West Virginia border to PA Turnpike I-76.
- Interstate 79 from Pa. Turnpike I-76 to the West Virginia border.
- Interstate 279, full length.
- Interstate 376 from Pa. Turnpike I-376 to Pa. Turnpike I-76.
- Interstate 579, full length.
The vehicles that are prohibited from those roads are:
- Tractors without trailers.
- Tractors towing empty or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.
- Tractors towing empty or lightly loaded tandem trailers.
- Enclosed empty or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks that meet the definition of a commercial motor vehicle.
- Passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks) towing trailers.
- Recreational vehicles/motorhomes.
- School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches.
- Motorcycles.
