Dauphin County mom who tried to drown her kids in creek during mental health crisis gets prison

A woman who tried to drown two of her children in a Dauphin County creek during what she believed was the Biblical end of the world was sentenced Monday to at least a decade in prison.

Candice McElwee was suffering from schizophrenia and self-medicating with methamphetamine around 3 a.m. on Sept. 6, 2022, when she tried to drown her 3- and 7-year-old daughters in the Stony Creek watershed in Middle Paxton Township, authorities said.
