PennDOT’s confusing truck signs prove Linglestown traffic circle was doomed from the start | PennLive letters

Ever since its construction many years ago the circle at the intersection of Mountain Rd and Linglestown Rd (Rt 39) has been subjected to destruction by 18 wheelers and inattentive car drivers. In its infinite wisdom, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation determined the best viable solution was to place signage along the east and westbound lanes of Linglestown Road at both the east and west ends.

A sign is located about a mile from the circle. There also is a sign on the northbound lane of Mountain Road, again about a mile from the circle.

The Linglestown Road signs state that no trucks over 29 feet in length are permited. The sign on Mountain Road states that no trucks over 55 feet are permitted. (This means that trucks as long as 54 feet would be permitted.) There is some importance not only to consistency but to the recognition that no truck over 55 feet could make a turn onto Linglestown Road from Mountain Road without taking out a sign or two or a length of curbing…
