Crash that closed highway for eight hours, hospitalizing one, deemed hit and run

Pennsylvania State Police say a Cumberland County truck-car collision on Route 34 Wednesday was caused by a third driver who left the scene.

Police said the 8:25 a.m. incident started when the first driver turned left from Peach Glen Road onto Route 34, known in that area as Carlisle Road, in front of a truck travelling north on the highway.

In order to avoid a collision with that driver, the truck driver swerved into the highway’s southbound lanes, and his cab and trailer – filled with 40 tons of soda ash – overturned, colliding with a Subaru Forrester headed south on 34…
