Dauphin County official wants to limit ICE cooperation after man’s death in custody

Spurred by PennLive’s reporting, Commissioner Justin Douglas announced Wednesday he would introduce a policy to further restrict Dauphin County’s association with federal immigration enforcement.

Douglas said at Wednesday’s Dauphin County Prison Board meeting he was working with the solicitor’s office to draft a policy that would only allow the jail to turn over people to ICE if presented with a signed judicial warrant.

Dauphin County’s current practice is to coordinate with ICE if presented with a civil detainer and hold people set for release until the end of the day to allow ICE time to pick them up…
