CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A new phone scam is on the rise in Cumberland County.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a phone scam is spreading in the Midstate in which a caller claiming to be the sheriff tells victims they need to take a test for their concealed carry license over the phone and asks for a payment method.
The sheriff’s office said it does not make phone calls of this nature from its Firearms and Licensing Division, it never asks for any payments over the phone and there is no phone test required to apply for a concealed carry license.
