State Rep. from Dauphin County introduces bill that would impose fee for State Police patrols in certain municipalities

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A State Representative from Dauphin County introduced a bill last week that would impose a fee for Pennsylvania State Police patrols in municipalities without local departments.

Rep. Justin Fleming’s (D-105) House Bill 2284 would charge municipalities without local police forces an annual fee for PSP coverage.

Currently, about two-thirds of Pa. municipalities rely on PSP for patrol services instead of maintaining a full-time local police force. According to Fleming’s memo, PSP coverage spans 82 percent of the state’s land area but serves only 25 percent of the population…
