Pit bull shot by Harrisburg district judge recovering after losing a leg

A 10-month-old female pit bull shot by a Harrisburg district judge earlier this month while walking his own dog lost her leg but is recovering well after surgery.

Lux had escaped from her Harrisburg home on Tuesday March 10, and her family was out looking for her as she approached Magisterial District Judge Hanif Johnson, who was walking his dog at South 18th and Chestnut Street, according to Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo.

Chardo said Johnson pulled out a gun and shot Lux once as she approached him about 5:35 p.m. He told police that he shot the dog out of necessity, but the circumstances of the shooting otherwise remain unknown…
