Plea agreement reached in 2024 Perry County baby’s death

PERRY COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A plea agreement was reached in a case where a Perry County baby died after being shaken and dropped in 2024, court records show.

Eriezer Melendez Jr., 38, pleaded nolo contendere, meaning he does not accept guilt but accepts being convicted, on a murder of the third degree charge. Other charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and simple assault were dismissed during a March 19 status hearing with Judge Kenneth A. Mummah, court records state. Sentencing is scheduled for May 29.
