(KRON) — A man who police say sexually assaulted a woman in downtown Berkeley on Saturday, July 4 has been arrested. According to the Berkeley Police Department, the suspect followed a woman into her apartment building around 3 p.m.
He then allegedly cornered the woman in an elevator where he exposed himself and groped her. The woman was able to escape when the elevator reached a floor with someone else on it.

She called for help. The suspect, police said, attempted to hide from responding officers. He was located in a neighboring garage and arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and related offenses.
