A 62-year-old bicyclist has died after being struck by a car on Harder Road in Hayward, according to police. The crash, reported around 12:10 a.m. yesterday near the intersection of Harder and Soto roads, has become the city’s fourth fatal traffic collision of 2026.
Hayward police responded to the crash report at Harder and Soto roads early yesterday, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. The bicyclist was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said. Officers have not released the victim’s identity.
The driver, a 52-year-old Hayward resident, remained at the scene when officers arrived and gave a statement, according to the Chronicle’s reporting. Police said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Investigators have not disclosed the vehicle’s speed or the lighting conditions at the intersection at the time of the collision, and it remains unclear whether the driver was attempting to pass the cyclist in accordance with the state’s bicycle passing requirements.

Monday’s death pushes Hayward’s 2026 fatal collision count to four, following three earlier traffic deaths in February.
