Bay Area tech layoffs already top last year as more job cuts surface

SAN JOSE — The number of tech industry job cuts in the Bay Area has already topped the number for all of 2025, totals that are exacerbated by fresh downsizing disclosures by PayPal, Amazon and Synopsys.

Through the start of September, tech companies have revealed their decisions to eliminate 12,947 jobs in the Bay Area, this news organization’s review of dozens of WARN notices on file with the state Employment Development Department shows.

That number is 27% higher than the 10,170 disclosed job cuts by the tech industry reported to the state EDD for all of 2025, last year’s WARN notices show…
