A woman shot a Richmond police officer who was responding to a mental health incident Thursday evening, authorities said, marking the second shooting of a law enforcement officer in Contra Costa County within hours.
The officer, a 20-year veteran of the police department, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.
Officials said the county’s behavioral-health response team requested the officer as backup after receiving a mental health crisis call around 6:40 p.m.
