State leaders have announced a slew of funding going towards transportation infrastructure across the state, and that includes funding for major upgrades to the East Bay’s Caldecott Tunnel. These changes would fund the ventilation project at the tunnel as well as make improvements to pavement, drainage, and lighting.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that the state is investing a total of $2.7 billion in more than 150 transportation projects across the state, using $1.6 billion in federal funding and $542 million from state funding.
In Newsom’s announcement about these statewide projects, the Caldecott Tunnel was at the top of the list. The update from his office said $267 million of that funding will go towards rehabilitating and upgrading the ventilation systems on three of the four bores at the Caldecott Tunnel.
