Bay Area weather: Autumn chill to give way to warmup

Chilly morning temperatures across the Bay Area early this week will yield to a significant warmup to the 80s and 90s, a reminder that the shift to winter-like weather hasn’t fully arrived.

Below-normal temperatures will continue Monday and Tuesday. Highs will be in the 60s at the coast and the 70s inland, with bayshore cities landing in between. Patchy fog is expected each morning.

A significant warmup is expected Wednesday as arid winds blow in from the north. Highs should reach the 80s in parts of the North Bay and East Bay. Even stronger north winds Thursday will probably push temperature into the 90s inland. San Francisco and Oakland are forecast to reach the 80s Thursday and Friday. Heightened fire danger is expected as a result of the dry winds.

The upcoming weekend should be a great chance for outdoor activities, especially considering El Niño is expected to bring very wet weather in the months ahead. Above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation are favored through Oct. 21, according to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, but the outlook thereafter is hazy.
