Wanted home burglary suspect tracked to rural Northern California; Captured after intensive pursuit

In a joint operation between Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Investigators and Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle pursuit unfolded on January 25, 2024, leading to the arrest of Gilberto Ramirez Cruz, 26, and an unnamed 17-year-old female.

The incident originated from an ongoing theft-related investigation in Contra Costa County. Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office (CCCSO) had been tailing two vehicles linked to the investigation and sought assistance from Tehama County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) as the pursuit entered Tehama County.

Upon TCSO attempting to conduct a traffic stop, both vehicles evaded, sparking a pursuit involving a white Porsche, the sheriff’s office said. The chase reached high speeds along I-5 and eventually traversed into the rural western area of Corning.

Multiple allied agencies, including Cal-Fire law enforcement, CHP, and CHP air operations, provided support during the pursuit. The chase culminated on Gyle Road, where law enforcement successfully apprehended Cruz and the juvenile suspect.
