On Wednesday evening, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Contra Costa County, causing mild to moderate shaking in the area. The quake, which occurred at 6:21 p.m., was centered in the community of Discovery Bay.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), weak to light shaking was felt not only in Discovery Bay but also in nearby areas such as Tracy and Concord. There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in California, which sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, known for its seismic activity. Residents are reminded to be prepared and have an emergency plan in place in case of future earthquakes.
