Kirk Herbstreit Shares Emotional Thoughts on the Success of ‘College GameDay’

After a thrilling Week 5 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Georgia Bulldogs in a top-five matchup, ESPN unveiled impressive viewership numbers for both the game and the ” College GameDay ” pregame show on the Alabama campus.

The pregame show averaged 2.3 million viewers, peaking at 3 million in the final hour, marking a 38% increase compared to Week 5 in 2023.

This season, “College GameDay” is on track for its best performance ever. Longtime analyst Kirk Herbstreit shared a heartfelt admission as he reflected on the show’s early-season success.

“Great time in Tuscaloosa and really appreciate CFB fans tuning in every week (no matter where the show is) knowing we will get ready for the ENTIRE day of CFB. Excited to get to Cal for the 1st time ever!” Herbstreit posted.

As Herbstreit noted, for the first time ever, the “College GameDay” crew will be on the Berkeley campus in California, a remarkable milestone given the show’s long history.

The matchup will feature the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes facing off against the California Golden Bears , who currently hold a 3-1 record. This will be California’s second ACC matchup since transitioning from the Pac-12 . The matchup is set to kickoff at 10 PM ET and will be televised on ESPN.
