SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — Walgreens will reportedly close 12 stores in San Francisco next month. According to separate reports in the San Francisco Standard and the San Francisco Chronicle , the pharmacy chain will close the stores due to rising business costs.
The locations set to close include the Market Street location where Banko Brown, an unarmed 24-year-old Black transgender man , was shot to death by a security guard in a shoplifting incident in 2023.

- 825 Market Street
- 1750 Noriega Street

- 1301 Franklin Street
- 1189 Potrero Street
- 135 Powell Street
- 1630 Ocean Avenue
- 5300 3rd Street
Last year, Walgreens announced it would be closing 1,200 nationwide over the next three years. According to a report in NPR , the pharmacy location closures were part of a plan for a financial turnaround as the retail chain faces competition and lower prescription payouts.
