Relief arrived late one evening as the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office announced the safe location of Peggy Young, a 69-year-old San Leandro woman whose disappearance sparked an urgent community-wide search. The brief update shared via the Sheriff’s Office’s social media indicated that Ms. Young had been found.
The search began after Ms. Young, identified as a black woman with brown eyes and black hair, was reported missing from her care facility last Saturday around 4:30 p.m., where she was last seen stating intentions to visit a friend in Oakland, since her absence, concerns were amplified by her mental health condition which necessitated medication that she had not been taking. Standing at 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds, she was described as wearing a black and green blouse coupled with black pajama pants, and although she lacked a cell phone, she was familiar with the public transportation system, a detail that may have played a role in locating her.
