Here’s a first look inside the Bay Area’s huge new food hall

Diners will finally be able to step into West Oakland’s long-awaited 12,000-square-foot food hall, Prescott Market, on April 5. It’s been a long time coming.

The final bits of wallpaper have been pasted. Douglas fir tables, where customers will split pizzas and fried rice burritos, have been installed. Some tenants have already done employee training on the premises, said Prescott Market director Harvindar “‘Harv” Singh.

“Once you see the signs have gone up and the people inside, you know the dream is about to come true,” Singh said. Previously announced with a December opening, the project at 1620-40 18th St. has faced construction delays, in part due to winter storms.

Some locals already got a taste during a recent event held by the Oakland Ballers, the new pro baseball team playing across the street at Raimondi Field. A series of night markets took place last summer in an effort to drum up excitement, and night markets featuring new vendors will continue this summer, Singh said…
