( KRON ) — A Catholic high school in the East Bay is mourning the loss of one of its students after they were killed in Oakland on Monday. According to officials, 15-year-old Derbing Alvarado died at the hospital after being shot on 100th Avenue.
“This loss has shocked and harmed the entire community,” a statement from Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School released Tuesday said.
The Oakland Police Department said they responded at 4:15 p.m. to the 1400 block of 100th Avenue on multiple reports of a shooting . Arriving officers located Derbing suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds.

“First and foremost, we want to respect and hold the student’s family’s privacy, space, and grief at this moment,” the Oakland high school wrote on its website . “No parent should have to deal with such a devastating tragedy. We are here to support them on their terms and their timeline.”
