Fliers seen across Oakland push for removal of homeless encampments

OAKLAND, Calif. ( KRON ) — The City of Oakland is ordering around 20 people living in encampments near Lake Merritt to move. In a few days, the city plans to begin its revegetation project in Peralta Park.

The City of Oakland has posted bright pink notices of vacant signs around Lake Merritt and Peralta Park. It reads that starting next Monday, crews will be removing encampments, vehicles and other personal belongings.

Dozens of tents line the Lake Merritt Boulevard overpass and Paralta Park in Oakland. But by next week, they will be gone.

The city posted these bright pink vacant signs on fences and telephone poles. One line on the sign reads, “the city has deemed this site unhabitable”…
