Two more dead gray whales wash up in Bay Area waters

The Marine Mammal Center on Friday confirmed that two more gray whales washed up dead in Bay Area waters, the second and third occurrence since a female gray whale was found dead at a Marin beach last week.

The second dead whale, an adult male, was reported floating east of Angel Island on Wednesday afternoon, according to a statement from the Marine Mammal Center. The whale was towed to Angel Island State Park on Thursday, where officials from the Marine Mammal Center and a team from the California Academy of Sciences plan to conduct an necropsy to investigate his death.

The carcass of the whale was in an advanced state of decomposition, which officials said indicated it “had been dead for some time.”…
