An iconic shopping department store has closed its doors in a once popular city center as customers describe the “depressing” scenes of a struggling retail industry.
San Francisco Centre mall in the Financial District was once the home to the popular Bloomingdale’s and many other stores. Now, a decade on from when it was thriving, the shopping centre is a sorry state from when it was packed with shops and customers.
Some shopper still frequent the center, but may opt for other malls in the Bay Area. And their experiences will be much different to the much-changed San Francisco Centre. More than half of all the stores at the mall are gone and several additional stores have closed in the last few days.
She explained: “What can I say about it? It’s depressing, it’s sad. I feel bad actually even looking at the sale because there are people who are out of jobs now.”…
