FedEx to close two once vital California shipping hubs; 170+ Layoffs Anticipated

FedEx will permanently close two shipping facilities in the Bay Area, resulting in over 170 job losses, according to filings with California’s Employment Development Department. The company plans to shut down its Emeryville location at 1600 63rd Street, affecting 79 employees. Meanwhile, its Oakland facility at 8455 Pardee Drive will lay off 95 workers.

The closures are set to take effect on June 2. FedEx did not disclose the reason behind the move, but the cuts come amid a wave of tech and logistics industry downsizing in the region.
