A dead bat found in a Fremont neighborhood this week tested positive for the rabies virus, the city’s first confirmed case of a rabid bat since 2019, authorities said.
Alameda County vector control officers, who work to prevent the spread of diseases among animals, collected the dead creature Tuesday at a home near De Salle Terrace in the Niles neighborhood, Fremont police said. The county’s public health department confirmed that the bat tested positive for the rabies virus.
There was no human or animal contact, but police said that “out of an abundance of caution,” the homeowner’s dog would be revaccinated and quarantined for 30 days…
